Reader’s Question:

When they say cheapest car insurance quotes in Minnesota, do they really mean that?

Bill

Minneapolis, MN

When someone offers you something really good, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? That’s right. When someone says they offer the cheapest car insurance quotes, you take it with a grain of salt. As with most things, there is always something is true.

To give you an example, I remember this case with a family who was hit by a drunk driver. The father didn’t read the entire policy since he was told by an agent that he was going to get full coverage. As it turns out, the policy would not pay the whole amount needed if the party at fault was not insured. Which the drunk driver was.

So what are the things that you should look for when offered cheapest car insurance quotes in Minnesota? The most obvious is the deductible. In insurance jargon, a deductible is the amount that you need to pay before the company’s coverage on you starts paying. A high deductible means lower rates. So when an agent offers you cheap auto insurance, be wary. Ask how much the deductible is. It may too high and make you unable to pay.

You should also ask what coverage the policy will have given the quote. Don’t simply look at the coverages. Take extra care to study the limits of your policy. Like in the example above, the family had full coverage but it seems to be only enforceable only if the party at fault was also insured.

A new company is also likely to offer low rates. This sounds good at first but being a new company means they likely have less experience. You not only have few information on their financial status but you also have no idea on how they deal with claims.

These are just some of the many things that you must take note of when dealing with automobile insurance. Especially if it has the cheapest car insurance quotes.

Car Insurance Claim in New Jersey

Reader’s Question:

I just moved in here in New Jersey and unfortunately I’m still not very familiar with many things. Can I actually file a car damage claim here in New Jersey with my own car insurance?

Kate

Clifton, NJ

Here in New Jersey, you have the option whether you are going to use your own car insurance or the other driver’s car insurance for filing a claim if in case the other driver had caused the accident. If you have enough coverage you should be able to choose your own policy to file claim. But before you do this, you should first and foremost file an insurance claim if in case your car is damaged or stolen.

If you want to file a claim by your own policy you have at least the Collision Coverage or the Comprehensive coverage. If you file a claim to your own insurance company your insurers will pay the repairs for the damages of your car or if the damage repair of your car exceeds the value of your car, your insurers will pay the value of your car instead. IF you have chosen to file a claim with the other driver’s car insurance then you will only receive a payment for the damages incurred to your car even if the other driver is legally responsible with the accident, there is also a possibility that the other driver’s car insurance might not be able to pay everything you have lost.

Reader’s Question:

With so many things being said about car insurance, I’m having information overload that I no longer know which are important or not. For starters, what do I need to know about auto car insurance quotes and how do I know its a good deal or not?

Mariah

New York City NY

I understand what you are feeling right now. When we are given a task which usually involves cashing out money, we tend to gather as much as information hoping that it could help us find the best deal. But sometimes it will just cause confusion. So, first thing you should do now is to stop. Try to get away from all the information you gathered, and simply ask yourself what you need in car insurance.

These are the basic things that are essential in auto car insurance quote. The needs:

  • You need to get a coverage which complies to your state requirement. Each state has set its own required coverage amount.
  • These are the common coverage required by different states: bodily injury liability for 1 person in an accident and for all people injured in a mishap, and property damage liability for one accident.
  • Bodily Injury Liability: $25,000/$50,000 Limit
    Property Damage Liability: $10,000 Limit
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $25,000/$50,000 Limit
    Personal Injury Protection: $50,000 Limit
  • You should focus on fulfilling these three required coverage first.
  • You should get an auto car insurance quote that will not break your bank. Be practical. Do not get an insurance that you might end up selling your car.
