Illinois Car Insurance Discount Tips
Reader’s Question:
Hearing insurance agents and brokers here in Illinois talk to you about car insurance coverage, you’d think their talking about rocket science! Can you give me an idea of how car insurance would work for an ordinary person like me?
Nigel
Bloomington, IL
I agree, car insurance shouldn’t have to be as difficult to understand as Quantum Physics. Here is a simple explanation of what a typical car insurance policy consists of and what it does for you there in Illinois:
Liability Coverage – this is insurance to protect you in case you are sued for damages or injuries you cause in an accident involving your vehicle. There are two types:
· Bodily Injury – pays for injuries to each person you injure ($20,000 minimum in IL) and for every person you injure in an accident (min. $40,000 IL)
· Property Damage Liability – pays for damages you cause on properties (min. $15,000 IL)
Personal Injury Protection (Med Pay)- pays for your medical and hospitalization bills (as well as your passengers) in a car accident. Can also cover lost wages and even funeral expenses.
Collision Coverage- pays for repairing or restoring the insured value of your car in an accident, or reimbursing you if your car was totaled.
Comprehensive- covers you in case you lose your car to events and incidents not related to a car crash (theft, vandalism, natural disasters etc.,).
Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist- Compensates for your damages in case the party responsible for causing the car accident has limited or no insurance coverage to pay you.
These are the basics and the most important parts of your policy. You should also take advantage of a free car insurance quote check on this website so you can compare rates between many providers and get the most competitive rates available.
Senior Driver Car Insurance Discounts
Reader’s Question:
Im a senior driver and I would like to know if there is any way I can still get car insurance discounts?
Mike
Seattle WA
As a senior driver you may think that you are not eligible for any insurance discount because of age. This is actually not true. Anyone can get a discount even if he is young or old. Insurers have a lot of promotions and discounts schemes for all ages.
You may believe that age causes rates to go up. That’s far from the truth. Fifty years old and above drivers but below seventy-five are considered the safest drivers from an insurer’s point of view. This is because drivers of this age group seldom over speed when driving and are not fond of cruising the roads for no reason. Based on facts, older drivers have low accident rate. When they get into accidents, they are often minor. This is, however, not true for seventy-five and older drivers. Unlike the other age group, these drivers have a high major accident rate in daytime, which make insurers categorize them as very high risk. It’s normal for human reflexes to slow down as we age. This is probably the reason why these drivers get into fatal accidents.
A clean driving record is always a great way to get an affordable car insurance. It doesn’t have an age limit. When you’re old and has a driving record that is clean, you will surely impress the insurers. Having a clean record means you also have not filed claims against your policy. If this were so, the insurance company can you give huge reductions in your car insurance rate. The more years you refrain from filing claims, the higher your discount will be. If you have managed to keep out of mishaps thus far, keep it up as it will be very beneficial to you.
17 Year Old Driver Cheap Car Insurance
Reader’s Question:
Im only 17 and I practically pay for my own car insurance. I cant afford it. Its too expensive! Is there any way I can lower it down?
Frances
Seattle WA
A high insurance rate is very heavy on the budget, particularly for someone who is still young and does not have a high-paying work. People below 25 are normally getting expensive insurances, which are higher that people older than them. This happens since many people of this age group have been involved in major accidents, resulting to insurers paying a lot of money for bodily injuries and car repairs. Obviously, insurance companies do not like paying often. They would want to lessen their risks. But since teenagers have shown time and again that they would always be speeding on the road or being on the road far more than the ideal, insurers have no choice but to raise rates among teenagers.
Despite this outlook, there are still ways for a young driver to get an affordable insurance. If you are new, you will need to keep your record good for the next few years to establish your responsibility as a driver. While in the process, what you can do is to enroll in a defensive driving subject that will enhance your driving skills. This course is favored by insurers because the driver becomes more adept when handling a car on the road. After passing the subject, inform your insurer so that it can take that information into account the next your policy is due for renewal. As a student, getting a good grade is a way for you to land a good job in the future. There’s so much more this! You can actually get an insurance discount if your average happens to be a B or higher. If not, work on it a little to get that grade and enjoy the discount. You may need to work it out a bit and slow down on going out during school days.
