Reader’s Question:

What are the things that I should be aware of about my car insurance rates here in New Jersey? Also, could you give me some pieces of advice to get as much savings as I could?

Scott

Newark, NJ

Your car insurance coverage in New Jersey may be a complex thing but a small amount of help could clarify a lot of uncertainties. Car insurance has three most important types that you should know. First is the property coverage that would cover for any damage to your vehicle. It could also provide coverage in case your vehicle is lost or stolen. Second is the liability coverage which would cover the losses and damages that you may cause to other individuals. In case your vehicle crashes into another vehicle, liability coverage would pay for it. In the even that you cause any bodily injury to another individual, it covers the expenses as well. Third would be the medical coverage which would pay for the medical expenses caused by the accident. It would also cover the rehabilitation, lost wages and funeral expenses because of the mishap.

To get as much saving as you could for your New Jersey car insurance, you may opt to pick a high deductible. Keeping an outstanding credit rating would also help in getting better car insurance premiums. Aside from that, you also have to keep a clean driving record and be certain that you won’t get any traffic infractions. If you have other insurances such as home, life and health, you can put it under the same insurance company to get a multi-line discount. Lastly, you need to always compare car insurance quotes everytime you’re in the lookout for coverage.

Reader’s Question:

I just moved in here in New Jersey and unfortunately I’m still not very familiar with many things. Can I actually file a car damage claim here in New Jersey with my own car insurance?

Kate

Clifton, NJ

Here in New Jersey, you have the option whether you are going to use your own car insurance or the other driver’s car insurance for filing a claim if in case the other driver had caused the accident. If you have enough coverage you should be able to choose your own policy to file claim. But before you do this, you should first and foremost file an insurance claim if in case your car is damaged or stolen.

If you want to file a claim by your own policy you have at least the Collision Coverage or the Comprehensive coverage. If you file a claim to your own insurance company your insurers will pay the repairs for the damages of your car or if the damage repair of your car exceeds the value of your car, your insurers will pay the value of your car instead. IF you have chosen to file a claim with the other driver’s car insurance then you will only receive a payment for the damages incurred to your car even if the other driver is legally responsible with the accident, there is also a possibility that the other driver’s car insurance might not be able to pay everything you have lost.

Reader’s Question:

I am new here in New Jersey and unfortunately my car was stolen and I was really devastated that I don’t know what to do. What do usually the people here do when their car is stolen?

Martha

Elizabeth, NJ

It is most advisable here in New Jersey that whenever their car is stolen they should immediately inform their car insurers of all of their losses and also, you should report it to the police. It is most necessary to report it to the police for you will need the police report to make sure your car insurers will not deny your claim. Stolen cars are not the only thing you should report as a loss for vandalized or damaged by a hit and run is also considered a loss.

When a car is damaged here in New Jersey, the owner of the car must make the wrecked car available for the insurers to inspect. You should not have your car repaired yet before the inspection. Not all the damages of your car can be paid by your insurers like for example if the car seat is broken due to the rain that dropped into it from the broken windshield. You should also cooperate to your insurer’s investigator for this could help your claim accepted. If you have filed a claim to your car insurance, your insurance company has to complete all the conditions affirmed in your policy as well as doing your duties and requirements.

Reader’s Question:

My father and I talked about my car insurance when I visited them last time and he told me that I should compare many car insurance agencies for me to save money. How do you think it will help me save money with my car insurance if I call multiple car insurance agencies here in New Jersey?

Bill

Edison, NJ

When people go shopping, they usually look around asking for prices and asking again to the other shops and comparing then they buy when they have picked something cheap and good. This also applies to shopping for car insurances for we have to look, search and inquire around in order to get something that we want with the price we hoped.

It is really true that when you use many car insurance agencies in New Jersey, you can really save money for car insurance agencies do not have the same price with the same coverage that we are talking about. If you get three different quotes from many car insurance agencies you will surely have the coverage and price you hoped for. When you compare each from different car insurance agencies, you should not use the cost as the main comparison but instead you should choose an agency that could be there anytime you need them as fast as they can and process everything as early as possible, in short, good and quality service. You should also choose the agency that can give you discounts after a year time especially if you had never put yourself in grave dangers of the road.

Reader’s Question:

I heard about this diminished value of a car after an accident from someone here in New Jersey. Are car insurance companies responsible for the diminished value if the policyholder files a car insurance claim?

Paul

Passaic, NJ

The discussion about diminished value has been in frenzy for years since majority of car insurance policies were mum about the subject matter whether car insurance companies are responsible for any or believed decrease in car’s value after an accident, even if the car has been fixed to its pre-accident condition. Car insurance companies fight that diminished value would not be covered, but policyholders don’t agree. And there have been a lot of court cases in which the policyholders battle with their car insurance companies about diminished value compensation.

However, the Insurance Services Office or ISO, the agency that gives insurance forms and data, has written a policy language that car insurance companies could now use in 45 states (New Jersey included) and Washington, DC that legitimately takes car insurance companies not liable for diminished value compensation in bodily damage coverage car insurance claim. In some cases, auto insurance policies work this way — the ISO puts forward sample property or casualty guidelines to state insurance departments all over the US that make it easier for car insurance companies to change and simplify their car insurance policies. A number of state insurance departments should authorize the report of the ISO prior to a car insurance company taking on any guidelines suggested by the ISO.
