Reader’s Question:
Which is cheaper, a Non-Owners Auto Insurance or the Insurance that comes with a car rental service? I won’t have a car here in Livonia, Michigan for a while so I plan to go around using a rentals but I don’t like driving without proper insurance.

Although most of the time the Automobile Insurance policies included in a car rental service is sufficient to cover you for the duration of the service, they are still quite expensive to maintain as they are only meant for short-term coverage. It may be much more beneficial for you to maintain a Non Owners Automobile Insurance Policy instead, especially if you can see yourself availing of temporary car rental services there in Livonia, Michigan, or borrowing your friends or relatives automobile on a long term basis to be able to go around. The difference in savings can actually amount to a few thousand dollars a year.
You may also see that you can actually get better rates or better coverage by investing on Non-Owners Car Insurance. While most car rental insurance actually charge a premium while providing just the basic coverage, with a Non Owners car Insurance you can extend your protection to your friends or relatives automobile as well. These will include additional coverage in case you do get in to a car accident and the car you were driving is either uninsured by its owners or the insurance was insufficient in paying for all medical, legal and repair fees. In any case, it might also be interesting to note that you can get or haggle for better car insurance rates in the future, in case you do decide to get your own car, since you can show that you were responsible enough and is financially capable of maintaining car insurance.
