Reader’s Question:

I am just curious on how the auto insurance law works in New Britain, Connecticut. I have auto insurance on all of my vehicles since I know it is required by law. But what I am wondering about is when am I going to be required to show or provide proof of auto insurance?

I’ve checked with this question and according to the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Fact Sheet that I’ve read there are three instances wherein you would be asked to provide proof of car insurance:

First, when the car that you have is registered for the first time;

Second, when your former car insurance company notifies the Connecticut DMV that your auto insurance policy has been cancelled. Thus, the Connecticut DMV will notify you to provide proof of auto insurance;

Third, if by any chance you are selected randomly and the auto insurance company you have on records was not able to verify to the Connecticut DMV that you are insured.

If you have other questions about auto insurance law in New Britain, Connecticut feel free to ask your car insurance agent. You could also opt to contact the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.
