Auto Insurance with DWI Fort Bethlehem Pennsylvania PA
Reader’s Question:
My cousin told me that being cited for a traffic violation like DWI will affect my auto insurance rate to increase in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. What if I’m cited for DWI in another state let’s say in Ohio, will this still affect my auto insurance rate to go up since it’s an out of state violation?

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Yes it will. Both the Ohio and your home state Pennsylvania are members of the Driver License Compact (DLC). With DLC, violations that are committed out of state will be reported back to a person’s home state. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), following are the out of state violations which will be reported back to Pennsylvania and will be treated as if it happens in your home state:
- a vehicular accident that resulted to death;
- driving either under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
- failing to extend help in an event that a vehicular accident happened which resulted to physical injury or death of the party involved; and
- crime that uses or involves the use of the vehicle.
I would not say you drink and drive around. Because, having DWI under your name involves just so much problems. So whether you drive in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania or anywhere in the world, never drink and drive. It’s one sure way of avoiding a very expensive insurance rates and one way of valuing your life.
